Biography

Mr. Yi Rao focuses his practice primarily on the area ofmaritime,shipping, insurance, freight forwarding, corporate and other related fields. He has lots of experience in case handling and litigation.In the past 19 years, he has undertaken a large number of cases on behalf of various shipowners, insurance companies, freight forwarding companiesand international trading companies, mainly including ship collision disputes, personal injury disputes, charter party disputes, insurance subrogation disputes, contract of carriage of goodsdisputes, freight forwarding contract disputes and other related disputes. There are some complicated and difficult cases which are recorded in the Gazette of the Supreme Court of the P.R.C. Mr. Rao also serves as the legal counsel for numerous companies, assisting them with their day-to-day business transactions and other legal matters.

Co., Ltd. for releasing cargo without production of original B/L for RMB 1,200,000.00 • Acted for JHJ against American International Underwriters (AIU) Shanghai Branch for dispute on the contract of the carriage of goods by sea for USD 1,000,000.00 • Acted for Russian Maritime Register of Shipping to deal with dispute on collision of M/V “Surf“for RMB 50,000,000 • Acted for West of England Insurance to deal with the collision of M/V“Taishan“ for USD 500,000 • Acted for PingAn Shanghai to deal with a claim with Shanghai Shengshi for freezing containers dropping into the sea for USD 1,300,000 • Acted for PICC JiangYin to deal with dispute on collision of M/V“Hengshan“ for RMB 3,500,000 • Acted for nine branches of PICC insurance company in a series of cases arising from cargo loss caused by serious typhoon and carrier’s negligence, involving claim amount of USD 600,000.00 • Dealed with M/V "Zheshengyu 05885" collision accident with M/V "Silver Phoenix" , which caused 13 crews dead and 2 crews injured in the accident, and claimed for a compensation nearly USD 5,000,000 • Dealed with M/V "Huajinyang" collision accident with M/V worth "Rainbow Spring"nearly RMB 48.000.000 • Dealed with M/V "Zheshengyuyun 0919" collision accident with M/V "Taisheng" , which caused 6 crews dead and claimed for a compensation nearly USD 2,400,000 • Acted for Royal & Sun Insurance to deal with its disputes with Emic on the contract of the carriage of goods by sea for USD431,000.00 • Acted for Royal & Sun Insurance （Shanghai) to deal with its disputes with Shanghai Tianyuan on the contract of the carriage of goods by sea about USD2,000,000.00 • Acted for CIC (Jiangyin) to deal with Singapore Songka Shipping on insurance subrogation disputes for about RMB 6.5 million • Acted for PingAn Insurance (Changzhou) to deal with its disputes with STRATEGIC TANKERS INC./ MTMMC on the contract of the carriage of goods by sea over USD 900,000.00 • Acted for West of England Insurance to deal with its disputes with Sinotarans on the contract of the carriage of goods by sea nearly USD 680,000.00 • Representing Cargolux Airlines and its 8 insurers to file a claim arising out of aircraft ground handling incident
